Quills & Blogs...
Today we will be reading and writing all about Sarah Hale {she is the woman who SAVED Thanksgiving with her quill!} Be sure to ask your first grader all about her!
Also, on Thursdays we visit the computer lab. Previously our charge has been visits to RazKids to practice reading books at our level and answering comprehension questions to practice reading carefully with understanding. This Thursday I am going to have the children go on an adventure in blogging. I have created a blog just for the Candy Corns. {Click here to check it out!} As of right now there is a welcome note and then the first question we will be responding to {this one is about our snack chapter book read aloud}. As a means of conversing with one another, and diving into some in-depth conversations in an alternative format, we will have the Kidblog. I will post questions and the children will comment as a way to write their responses. I had each child create a pen name so they will not be using their real names online. The password for their pen name will be their name. I have the blog set up so that I have to approve all comments in order to ensure that it is appropriate. Often I will post questions to respond to while we are in the computer lab, but I also envision using this as a means of having conversation outside of the school building. So I may post a question, and then email you to let you know your Candy Corn is welcome to log on and respond. There is a link to our our Kidblog on my blog. This is a new adventure, I'm eager to see where they take it! :D I welcome your thoughts too!
