Is it week seven? Nope! It's week eleven!

We watched an excellent video about voting you can see here. It lead to an excellent discussion about voting, elections, and I am so impressed with how much the children know!

As the voting was taking place in the gym, Ms. Garcia came to our classroom to host excellent discussions/lessons about stranger danger and playground safety. The videos are available on her website here. Excellent resources for you to refer to!

We also had our fire-fighter guest today! He gave us homework last visit to know our address! Those of us knew it got a prize! We spoke about a phone is a tool not a toy and when is it appropriate or important to call 911. Ask your child if they remember reasons to call 911! Check us out on Twitter to see what we were up to with Fire Fighter Garrett LaFleur! Next visit we will talk about home fire drills and smoke detectors.

It was an exciting Wednesday for this budding technology dork-ish teacher! I introduced the children to their class Twitter handle the @CairnsTweeters. {Check us out here!} It was an introductory mini-lesson to the teacher/educational uses of Twitter. We will be working with other classrooms across the country using the #1TweetPals. If you would like to follow us along :) More about this will be coming as we work with this! Our Wednesdays are shaping up to be quite the delightful iWonder Wednesdays. With @CairnsTweeters talk, more news/news cast talk, and challenge word problems that we have to work at to get to! Wow! I wish Wednesdays were not our short day...I need more time with your first graders! :)

It was also the 50th day of school this week so we had Buddy Holly and friends music as our soundtrack all day! We also did some fun 50's decade related activities. The things that are not complete will get completed in the next few days and then come home.

Thanks so much for ALL you do!
