Gettin' our kicks in week 6...

This week I found a fun site that is another opportunity to practice spelling words. We do creative things in the classroom using our learning journal during work work element to reading workshop, BUT I am always on the prowl for ways to help you help your first grader at home with word work! If you go here, I have created our custom list of spelling words so that it's all ready for your first grader to play games with in order to practice! Let me know how you like it! I've added an element to our room 108 blog that is a homework option, and certainly a dinner table conversation starter! Each week we have oral vocabulary words. I refer to them as the "wonderful words." We learn their definitions and use them in our journal writing. There is also a delightful story that uses the words. I will post them on the blog each week so that you can use them around the house. The more often the children hear/use them they will become a part of their internal vocabulary! Dangers of having a word nerd as a teacher! :)

Also! Need your thoughts. I am thinking of revamping our reading log. To make it more the official homework that it is. Daily reading is extremely important and we want the children to realize that it is a nightly assignment that is required. Here is the new {and improved is my hope!} reading log.
